Kimberley Davis–Contributor

Davis is an experienced freelance writer, holds a BS in Home Economics Education from State University of NY at Plattsburgh and an MS in Health Education from the Sage Colleges.  With over 25 years of experience in food, health and education, she has worked in both corporate and educational settings across the US.  Her background includes study in London and extensive travel to many locales including Hawaii, the Caribbean, the West Indies, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Ecuador.  Kim’s passions are holistic health, nutrition, spirituality, travel, world cultures and therapeutic essential oils. She is currently working toward an advanced degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine & Herbology at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago.  Davis lives in Naperville, IL with her husband, two teenage children and a loyal cocker spaniel who eagerly tastes tests her healthy recipes even when her family won’t.

Sarah Davis–Contributor
gsd-sarah-messali-photoSarah Davis has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences from San Diego State University and has been working in fitness and nutrition for years. She has worked as a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Sports Nutritionist for her own clients with a variety of nutritional needs. Sarah has also taught fitness classes, worked as a Nutritionist in a hospital setting and as a Nutrition Counselor for a government program. She has a passion for the concept of preventing chronic diseases through proper nutrition, but at the same time won’t deny her sweet tooth the occasional treat!

Heidi Dean–Contributor & Special Projects
gsd-heidi-dean-2Heidi Dean is a graduate of New York University and holds an M.S. in Nutrition. She is a certified holistic health practitioner by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, a certified kids’ nutrition specialist, and a certified sports nutritionist by the National Federation of Professional Trainers. Heidi’s focus is on a holistic, whole body, approach to nutrition in order to achieve a lifetime of health and wellness. Heidi has worked with clients in the areas of weight management, sports nutrition, food allergies/sensitivities, celiac disease, women’s health, disease prevention, as well as numerous other health concerns.  Although, she loves working with her adult clients, her biggest love is bringing the world of healthy whole foods to children.  She has a private family practice in New York City and Orange County, NY.  Heidi is also the writer and illustrator of THE  PHYTOS children’s book series aimed at fostering positive associations to whole foods in our children.  Look for Heidi’s “Gluten-Free Greatness” line of Gluten-free goods available near you soon!

Sandy Killam-Hall–Editorial Director
gsd-sany-killam-hallSandy Killam-Hall grew up in large family (seventh of nine children) and has teenage boys (food consuming machines) of her own. Out of necessity, she spends a considerable amount of time at the grocery store looking for healthy, fast, and economical meals to feed a crowd.  A Registered Dietitian who holds a Master’s Degree in Nutrition, she has written articles and features for several national and regional magazines and created a series of brochures and educational materials on Wellness and Healthy Aging for Sodexho Corp. A practiced educator, Sandy has taught colleges courses in Nutrition, Food Safety, and Culinary Arts. In addition, Sandy has planned special menus for both non-profit and government-run food delivery agencies, consulted with individuals, community groups, and successfully organized a food pantry for families in need at a local school. Furthermore, has lived in the northwest, west, southeast, and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and travels whenever the opportunity arises. Sandy enjoys helping people incorporate easily prepared foods vs. fast foods in to their meal plans and modifying recipes without sacrificing taste to obtain a healthy diet.

Heather Neal–Contributor
gsd-heather-neal-rd-ldnHeather E. Neal, RD, LDN is a registered dietitian and licensed dietitian/nutritionist. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Food and Human Nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She then completed her dietetic internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Heather holds a certificate in Specialized Training in Adult Weight Management by the American Dietetic Association/Commission on Dietetic Registration. She has practiced as a clinical dietitian and nutrition counselor, with an emphasis on weight loss, fitness, and chronic disease. Heather is currently practicing as clinical dietitian for patients with end-stage renal disease. She is passionate about helping individuals meet their wellness goals, as well as working with children in the fight against childhood obesity. Heather believes even the smallest positive change in diet and lifestyle can make a great impact on health. Outside of counseling clients, Heather is an avid runner and swimmer, and is currently training for her second triathlon.

Renee Pottle–Contributor
GSD Pottle picRenee Pottle is the author of several cookbooks, a health educator, wellness coach, nutrition consultant and the owner of Wine Barrel Gourmet, a foods company specializing in convenient, heart-healthy mixes. Previously, she was a regular contributor to Pillsbury Fast and Healthy Magazine, developing vegetarian and two-serving dishes and for several years taught cooking, food science nutrition, and health courses at a small school in Maine. A cooking enthusiast from a young age, Renee has been creating new recipes since she was ten years old, and currently specializes in heart-healthy nutritious, vegetarianism and meatless meals, Mediterranean diet, flavoring food with wine, budget cooking and meal planning. Kim Stakal–Contributor
gsd-kim-stakalKimberley Stakal is a Certified Health-Supportive Chef with an expertise in natural health food-based nutrition. After studying whole foods nutrition theory and culinary application at the world-renowned Natural Gourmet Institute for Health & Culinary Arts in New York City, she took her training to the public by becoming a health-supportive personal chef, educator, and writer. Her professional experiences include cooking at a youth rehabilitation center, teaching vegetarian cooking classes to toddlers, and personal cheffing for clients with specific health conditions. In addition, Kimberley has contributed to a number of food and nutrition communication projects, including editing recipes for vegan activist Alicia Silverstone and developing a 6-week natural weight management program. She enjoys getting others excited about the healing, sustainable, and delicious qualities of foods.
